SHAREWAVE Technologies says its hosted PBX will cut communication costs for businesses even further.

PBX, the technology that consolidates communication allows businesses to never miss a call and lose potential customers.

You can make and receive calls on your company’s landline from your computer or cell phone.

But Sharewave’s hosted PBX, as the name suggests, means that the infrastructure that a business needs for its communications is hosted and maintained by Sharewave, unlike with tradional PBX — this is one of the company’s major selling points.

This facility isn’t the same with PBX systems that are on the market and require major installation that comes with higher fees, according to Roy Reynolds, chief executive officer at Sharewave Technologies.

“If you were to have a PBX on your location, you are looking at US$500 ($52,000) for two extensions, compared to US$30 that we charge,” he said.

Since Sharewave’s hosted PBX is run offsite, employees can work from any branch or on the road while still having the ability to conduct conference calls, check voicemail and even have a virtual receptionist to greet callers.

In addition, the hosted PBX includes three functionalities that would require users of a traditional PBX to switch to an IP PBX and incur more expense.

Those with the normal PBX would have to get the IP PBX to get the voicemail-to-email, extension dialling, and online account management, Reynolds explained.

Voicemail-to-email enables the businessperson who is overseas to retrieve voicemails that will be sent as an attachment to the email. This replaces the roaming charges one would incur to listen to their messages.

While online account management allows the users to track spend and use of the system in real time.

But, this is just one of the features that comes with the PBX packages.

Other features include video conferencing, instant messaging- for users in the same business; find-me call forwarding, which rings a series of phones to find you ± just so your calls won’t get missed.

And clients who move their fax machine services to Sharewave’s PBX can receive their faxes via email.

The company brought the system in 2008 to about five customers for testing.

Sharewave Technologies is a business formed through a partnership between the US- based company, Electronic Eyes Monitoring System, and Jamaican-based, Xzact Solutions Limited.
