ST Andrew High School for Girls hosted its Evening of Culture under the theme Praise Let It Rain at its Garden Theatre at Cecelio Avenue in Kingston on Sunday.

The event’s 14th staging saw some memorable performances from the school’s Performing Arts Department.

The programme’s first segment was dedicated to praise while the second half showcased the school’s award-winning performances, including the drum ensemble which took top spot in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Class 5 Drummers. They had the audience captivated with the seductive rhythm of Heritage Walk and Real Roots.

Rochelle Watson was another stand- out as she put her spin on Millie Small’s My Boy Lollipop with a good handle on the ska dance.

Duo Rachel Mitchel and Beth Campbell showed great promise in Just Want To Say Hi. Written by the former, the song echoed emotions of regret of a relationship gone bad, which seemed way beyond their years.

The Drama Club impressed with She Stands Tall, while there were other performances from OBOG Dance company and violinist Abigail Lloyd.

The only glitch of the evening was the long break between some performances as there seemed to be some disconnect with the sound and some of the acts.

The evening came to a close with cast members coming together to perform Yolanda Adam’s I Believe.

The evening’s emcees were comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat.
