SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — The murder case of the two police constables charged in the shooting death of three relatives in Shrewsbury was Tuesday transferred to Trelawny for trial.

An application for the transfer of the case from the Westmoreland Circuit to Trelawny Circuit Court was granted by Justice Paulette Williams when accused constables Kenroy Hines and Damane Campbell appeared in court.

The prosecution made the application following concerns raised by defence attorney Peter Champagnie that the men may not be able to get a fair trial in Westmoreland due to the heavy publicity of the matter.

“I had indicated a preference for the change of venue to be in Kingston but the learned judge indicated the heavy list in the Home Circuit Court,” Champagnie told the Jamaica Observer after court.

The men are to make their first appearance in the Trelawny Circuit on November 11 when the matter of legal representation is to be settled before the setting of a trial date. Their bails were extended.

The matter of legal representation became an issue after Champagnie, who appears for Campbell, told the court that it wouldn’t be fair for him to be representing both men.

The two are charged with the shooting death of 28-year-old fireman Andrew Brydson, his brother Tristan Brydson, 24, and their 38-year-old cousin Kingsley Green during an alleged shootout in Shrewsbury on March 15.
