Norman Manley High maintained slim hopes of progressing to the semi-final of the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup after a late Jamoly Green strike gave them a 2-1 victory over Group J opponents Holy Trinity High at Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.

Norman Manley benefited from an own goal in the 63rd minute and Green’s classy effort in the first minute of time added on. Trinity’s Shamar Dillon, who has 16 goals this season, temporarily equalised for his team in the 82nd minute.

Both teams ended the match with ten players. Norman Manley’s Kemoy Lewis was red carded in the 59th minute, while Holy Trinity’s Shevan Dallas was given his marching orders in the fourth minute of time added.

The win moved Norman Manley to three points from two matches, the same as Bridgeport, who lost 1-2 to Wolmer’s Boys’ (six) in the venue’s opening encounter. Holy Trinity High are at the base of the standings without a point.

Yesterday, Holy Trinity had the better of play in the first half.

Despite Norman Manley having a player sent off near the hour mark, Holy Trinity were put under some duress and the latter conceded an own goal when Dallas, who had a miserable afternoon, miscued an attempted clearance into the net.

Moments after, Green missed a couple of good opportunities as ten-man Norman Manley pressed for a second goal.

With approximately 15 minutes remaining, the ever-threatening Nicholas Hamilton got the chance to equalise for ‘Trinity’ but his close range shot rebounded off the crossbar.

However, eventually Dillon got the goal for Holy Trinity with a point-blank finish.

There was a late twist in the game when Green expertly controlled a pass in stride and slid home a low shot to steal the win and break Holy Trinity players’ hearts.
