ON Saturday October 26, 2013 Carl Chang, managing director of Western Sports, handed over Karakal squash gears and equipment including racquets, socks, arm bands and clothing to Alyssa Mullings the National Women’s Champion and Caribbean Under-15 female champion of squash at the Liguanea Sports Club.

Also present was Karen Mullings, manager and mother of Alyssa and Stephanie Chen See of Western Sports.

Karakal squash equipment is the leading brand in sporting equipment internationally.

The company has sponsored 15-year-old Alyssa Mullings from Manchester to showcase the brand’s entry into the Jamaican marketplace.

“We chose Alyssa because we want youngsters to see the potential in applying themselves to a sport to the level where they can be supported by an international brand even when they are not senior or long-standing in the sport,” remarked Carl Chang.

When asked, “Why squash?” Alyssa responded: “My father and his friends started out with tennis for exercise, but since we lived in Mandeville it rained a lot in the evening when they went to play. My dad’s friend introduced him to squash and he started taking my brother along. I got jealous. I wanted to go and I started to cry and say that it’s because my brother is a boy, so my dad started to take me and I got into the game and actually started to love it. My brother and I play competitively now, while my father still plays for exercise.”
