‘Pocket Rocket’ Shelly named 2013 World Athlete of the Year finalist
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Its official, Jamaica’s “pocket rocket” Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has been named one of the three female athletes still in contention to become the 2013 World Athlete of the Year.
With a little under two weeks to go until the 2013 World Athletics Gala, the IAAF Tuesday announced the finalists for the award, who were selected after a month-long poll of the World Athletics Family.
The other finalists are: New Zealand’s Valerie Adams and Zuzana Hejnova of Czech Republic.
Today’s IAAF announcement follows the announcement of the male finalists on Monday.
Jamaica has finalists in both categories for the 2013 World Athlete of the Year, with both Fraser-Pryce and Usain Bolt being named by IAAF.
The Council of the International Athletics Foundation IAAF will select the male and female winners, with the announcement taking place live on stage during the 2013 World Athletics Gala in Monaco, on Saturday, November 16.
