Jason Robinson’s Solar Buzz Jamaica
BECOMING his own boss was one goal Jason Robinson, chief executive officer of Solar Buzz Jamaica (SBJ), planned to achieve when he was a teenager.
Now, at 35, he is living his dream.
“I realised I wanted to become an entrepreneur when I started selling candy in school and got suspended for it. I made money and got publicity, and business tripled,” Robinson, told Career & Education.
Robinson, who has been directing the operations of SBJ for the last three years, said offering residents and commercial enterprises renewable energy solutions is his new focus.
“SBJ is an energy conservation and renewable energy company which focuses on education and making clients’ properties energy efficient. SBJ looks at low cost and no-cost areas for clients to save on their Jamaica Public Service bills,” Robinson said.
He added that SBJ also creates plans for clients to secure loans for renewable and energy solution projects from financial institutions such as Sagicor Bank, who are willing to lend for the purpose of ‘going green’.
Robinson was guest speaker at the 2013 Sagicor Bank small and medium enterprise business luncheon on October 29.
“Our target markets are commercial and residential clients — anyone wanting to reduce energy costs or have products that are eco-friendly,” he added.
In addition, SBJ offers energy audits, electrical inspections, wind analysis and energy management, as well as sells electricity monitors, energy star pool pumps, energy efficient pond pumps, solar systems, krystal bond energy window coating, and timers to turn off refrigerators at night.
Of the several products they offer, the company, which is located in New Kingston, manufactures only one product.
“We only manufacture the krystal bond window coating in Jamaica. The chemicals are sent separately for us to mix and add ingredients locally,” Robinson explained.
“I believe the products Solar Buzz Jamaica offer will reduce clients’ energy costs, while our services will educate clients on how to live more green, introduce them to innovative on-the-go green technology products, and reduce the pressure on the national electric grid.”
SBJ now employs eight individuals.
“I feel truly blessed to be able to be an entrepreneur in these hard economic times. It’s a great feeling to see your ideas and visions becoming a reality,” Robinson said.
10 benefits Robinson said he has derived from being an entrepreneur:
1. I get to choose the team and clients I want to work with.
2. I get to create my own path to success
3. I get the opportunity to work on things I enjoy doing.
4. My decisions are made quickly.
5. It feels good to employ people.

8. It keeps me motivated because if I slow down, I fail.
9. I get the chance to maximise the benefits of my success.
10. I get to effect change in people’s thoughts and actions.
