‘Stronger’ carries Sone G’s message of faith and hope
A committed Christian for over 20 years, Sone G has no limits when it comes to spreading the word. He has recorded gospel songs to dancehall, trap and reggae beats.
Stronger, his latest single, is done on a roots-reggae rhythm. Produced by Vi Records, it was released in early May.
“The song is timely because it’s about those moments when you feel like you have nothing left. It’s knowing your strength is not in yourself,” said Sone G.
He added that no matter the melody, one thing is constant about his songs.
“Faith is always the first thing you find in my music. Without faith, we are simply lost. Faith is that rudder that helps to keep us on track,” Sone G reasoned.
Stronger is his follow-up to Rescue Me, which topped charts in Canada. Find A Way, which preceded that song, was nominated for Top Trap/Fusion Dancehall Song at last September’s Reggae North Music Awards in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
Like many neo-gospel artistes, Sone G has a background in secular music. He hails from Rocky Point, the fishing village that produced Cocoa Tea, one of dancehall music’s biggest stars.
Rocky Point also has a rich sound system history, which Sone G saw up front in his youth. With songs like Stronger, he looks for as wide a following as possible.
“It’s an important part of being a believer. I would love for everyone to be an audience, especially those who might not share my faith or belief,” he said.
