Harbour view seek to consolidate
CHAMPIONS Harbour View could consolidate second spot when they travel to Cavalier at 6:00 pm in one of two rescheduled Red Stripe Premier League games today.
In the other game, former champions Portmore United host Rivoli United in the St Catherine derby at the Ferdie Neita Park starting at 7:00 pm.
Having won four of their last five games, Harbour View are currently in third place with 14 points, and a win today against sixth-placed Cavalier on 13 points could see them reduce the lead at the top to just two points.
The Stars of the East turned in a workmanlike performance in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Humble Lion and are once again favoured to secure another three points.
Former Kingston College and St George’s College National Under-20 striker McKauley Tulloch is back home from university and scored his first senior goal for Harbour View.
He will again be partnered by Brian Brown, the former top Rusea’s High marksman, forming a young and powerful frontline that will have to be contained.
With Jermaine Hue absent from the Harbour View line-up, the rejuvenated Keith Kelly is pulling the strings alongside Joel Senior, John-Ross Edwards and Nicholas Beckett and should prove a handful for Cavalier.
But the David Lalor-coached outfit, who are no pushovers, having won four of their eight games and especially playing at home, will prove hard to beat.
Having just scored five goals from eight games, Cavalier must improve in that category to be a serious threat, hence the likes of Girvon Brown, Norman Bailey, Deno Schaffe, Donovan Alvaranga and Claudius Blackburn must find their goal-scoring boots.
Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on former champions Portmore United who are rooted to the bottom of the 12-team league on five points.
They must kick-start their season with a win against a Rivoli United team who are in seventh spot on 11 points.
Portmore led Arnett Gardens two-nil before succumbing 2-3 last Sunday, and coach Calvin Lewis must be an anxious man seeing the two teams he coached this season currently at the bottom of the table.
