Heaven lashes Henry at Cricket Association polls
KINGSTON, Jamaica — William ‘Billy’ Heaven became president-elect of the Jamaica Cricket Association after crushing Milton Henry in Thursday’s elections.
The CHASE Fund CEO won 71-25 as a total of 96 votes that came in from the 101 delegates.
Speaking to reporters after the announcement was made at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston Heaven said “the result reflected” the pre-election vibe he and his team were getting from the delegates.
Henry, who was next in line to former cricket boss Lyndel Wright since May 2011, was said to be locked in a conference room with other voting members when Heaven was declared the winner.
Dr Donovan Bennett, who was second vice-president under Wright’s administration, beat Major Radcliffe Daley 69-28 for the job of first vice-president.
Heaven’s slate maintained its landslide trend when former fast bowling great Courtney Walsh defeated South West St Ann Member of Parliament Keith Walford 80-17 for second vice-president.
Heaven’s executive slate also comprised Fritz Harris for secretary; Clinton Clarke for assistant secretary; Wayne Sutherland for treasurer; and Hopeton Morrison for assistant treasurer.
Individuals on Henry’s ticket were Nigel Logan for treasurer; Mark Hill for assistant treasurer; Junior Stewart for secretary, and Major Marlon Kennedy for assistant secretary.
