THE Ken Jones Airstrip will be the venue for the Portland Bike Festival and Fun Day scheduled for Boxing Day.
Organiser Paul Young says the event is going to be a grand affair and a first for the parish during the Yuletide season.
“Traditionally, there are no big events for Portland during this period. So I thought it was fit to have a motorsport extravaganza like this to entertain the entire family,” Young told Auto.
Young said he had held a similar event in June, and the encouraging response residents prompted him to host another during the quiet period.
According to the promoter, biker crews from all over Jamaica are scheduled to attend and perform stunts.
“This will be bigger than the previous stagings. Elvis ‘Mad Dawg’ Stewart from Westmoreland, [Romond] Gichie and the Rush Rider Crew, and Police Sergeant ‘Mackie’ McFarlane will be among those on show,” said Young.
The Portlander said he had already received all the necessary permits to host the event, and pointed out that there would be plenty of attractions for children.
“We’ll have an area specifically for the kids … with clowns, fire dancers and a magician… They won’t be left out,” he said.
The promoter said an after-party will follow which the entire family can attend.
“It will be a clean, family fun day,” he said.
