IT was another procession as the hugely talented two-year-old filly Princess Popstar gave another display of utter class and composure winning the top two-year-old race, the one-mile Supreme Ventures Limited-sponsored Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes.

And amazingly, she won the race after bruising a leg in the gates and losing a shoe, a testament to the depth and resilient nature of this fine filly.

When she got going, it was not the usual 15-length victory that racing fans have become accustomed to from the small-framed horse, who they have affectionately named The Princess.

She won this time by five-and-a-half lengths from her stablemate Rocketman with rank outsider Liar Liar in third position.

Princess Popstar, with Winston Griffiths in the saddle, was pushed to go for the headlines when the gates opened, and from then on, it was a case of who would run second. The top choice to do so, Insane Bolt, was declared a late non-starter at the gates on the advice of the veterinarian on raceday duty.

The win by the Adore The Gold-Doc’s Paladin filly was her fourth win from four starts with her latest vaulting her into contention for Horse-of-the-Year honours.

For her trainer, Philip Feanny, it was just another day at the races.

“Princess Popstar won as expected, there was no dangers in the race and all she had to do was just run the way she is accustomed to. The final time of 1:38.4 minutes was quite outstanding. She is a really good horse and I will take great care with her in

her three-year-old year,” Feanny said.

The 14-time champion trainer said while all the accolades will quite rightly go to Princess Popstar, he was particularly pleased with the performance of Rocketman.

“Rocketman acquitted himself quite well in the race and finishing just five lengths behind the filly,” Feanny said.

Griffiths was much more effusive in his praises for the filly.

“This is a good horse. In fact, of all the good two-year-olds that I have ridden in my many years in the saddle, Princess Popstar ranks among the best. She has pace, and can win as she likes, and I am very impressed by her final time as some of the older horses in the top grades would find it difficult to run 1:38.4 for a mile,” said a beaming Griffiths.

Princess Popstar is owned by 2 Penyu and has now earned over $6 million dollars from her four starts.
