Threat level against police at extreme
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Police High Command says that the threat level against all police officers across Jamaica, and especially those who live and work in Area One (Hanover, Westmoreland, St James and Trelawny) has been raised to extreme.
Extreme means that attacks against Police officers, on or off duty, are imminent.
This extreme threat level comes against the background of intelligence assessments, which suggest that criminals may plan an attack in retaliation for the fatal shooting of Torneil ‘Malta’ Haughton, the High Command says.
Haughton, the leader of the Alma Gang, which operates in Westmoreland and Hanover, was fatally shot by the police about 1:00 pm Tuesday at Big Bridge, Westmoreland.
A .45 Colt Pistol containing three live rounds, along with an additional 39 rounds, were taken from him.
The Police High Command is urging all cops to take this threat assessment seriously and raise their level of awareness and anticipation on, and especially off duty.
