REGGAE is not normally associated with American football, though the sport has grown in popularity in Jamaica.

Last Sunday, Jamaican music was the theme for Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Paul Soliai’s birthday party at Bamboo, a popular club on Miami’s fashionable South Beach.

A big reggae fan, the 31-year-old Soliai requested Inner Circle, Ky-Mani Marley and Peetah Morgan of Morgan Heritage help him celebrate his latest milestone.

Longtime Miami residents Inner Circle — led by founding members Ian and Roger Lewis — performed two of their biggest hits Sweat and Bad Boys, as well as Young Wild & Free.

Ky-mani Marley, another South Florida resident, performed two songs from his upcoming album while Morgan threw down a medley of Morgan Heritage hits.

Inner Circle, which was formed in Kingston in 1978, are synonymous with the South Florida reggae scene. Sweat and Bad Boys helped put the region on the radar in the early 1990s.

Bad Boys, their 1993 album, won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album the following year.
