Digicel keeps taxi-driver Oraine Andrade mobile

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Oraine Andrade, a taxi driver who plies the Spanish Town to Angels route in St Catherine, was on Thursday presented with four new tyres by Digicel as part of the #Brighter Christmas Facebook competition.

Andrade was nominated by his girlfriend, Bridgette Hudson. She said that Andrade is a dedicated, hardworking father, who uses the taxi as his source of income to take care of his family, including his two-year-old son Akshay, who is very ill.

After fitting the new tyres on his vehicle, Andrade showed off pictures of his son to the Digicel team adding that, “These tyres are really a timely blessing as I actually needed to get new ones. To be able to change all four of them, one time, is great and would not have been possible without Digicel.”

Shelly-Ann Harris, Digicel’s senior communications manager, presented the new tyres to the winner.

“It’s great to see how customers all across Jamaica are using data on their mobile phones for a variety of purposes including interacting with us on social media. The fact is that more and more customers are engaging with us online through our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages which stand at just under 700,000 fans combined. The DigiFam is growing online and we are so glad that this is now also a great way to give back to our loyal customers. We really hope the tyres will go a far way for Oraine and his family,” she said.

Commenting on her company’s ongoing commitment to giving back, she added: “Just last week one lucky customer received a Range Rover Evoque and today a taxi driver received four brand new tyres. This is because we believe in reaching people at different levels and from all walks of life. Digicel is very committed to impacting people’s lives and giving back in a way that is meaningful.”
