‘Twelve Tribes’ marks milestone
A HOST of artistes performed Tuesday evening at Twelve Tribes of Israel’s Hope Road headquarters in St Andrew, for a show marking the organisation’s 46th anniversary.
The fair-sized gathering of mainly Rastafarians were thoroughly entertained by veterans and emerging acts, who were not born when Vernon ‘Prophet Gad’ Carrington formed the ‘Twelve Tribes’ in 1968 at Davis Lane in Trench Town.
Fredlocks, the Mystic Revealers, Sister Carol, Dalton Browne, Sangie Davis and Nature were among the performers.
March 22 marks the 10th year since Carrington’s death. He was born at Matthews Lane in West Kingston in November 1935. Before he converted to Rastafari in 1961, Carrington was a dance promoter.
The Twelve Tribes attracted a formidable music membership that included Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Israel Vibration, Brigadier Jerry and Freddie McGregor.
