Street Dancer impressive in victory
With just two racedays to go before the running of the Thornbird and Prince Consort Stakes, the final preparation races for the upcoming Classic races, the heat is being turned on as trainers try to put things in place with their charges to make a run at the most prestigious races on offer in any given racing season.
On Saturday, the filly Street Dancer (Seeking The Glory – Luvable) put in a most impressive run to win a non-winners of two – three-year-old contest over seven furlongs. The race lost some of its interest when chestnut colt Cognac from the barn of Richard Azan who was a leading contender was declared as a late non-starter. With nine horses left in the event, Street Dancer (Dick Cardenas) shot off from the gates open to establish a five length lead.
Nicely rated down the backstretch by Cardenas, Street Dancer entered the straight in front and was never challenged, moving away from rival to win impressively by six lengths in a time of 1:27.1 minutes on what was a slow track on the day. Street Dancer who did not race as a juvenile is now two wins from two starts in her career.
There were two other three-year-old races, the first a maiden sprint over five and a half furlongs went to The Chosen One trained by Steadman Curtis. But what was particularly significant about this race was the run by Easy Prospect. Stopping and almost turning back at the start of the race, Easy Prospect ran the race of his life to finish in third position. Certainly he is one to watch.
The other three-year-old race was another maiden event this time over seven and a half furlongs. Declaring War, from the camp of Wayne DaCosta easily defeated the rest to win easily by five and a half lengths with Cardenas again doing the riding honours.
