JEVAUGHN Minzie led a series of double winners on yesterday’s second day of the JAAA Carifta Trials at the National Stadium in Kingston after he cruised to an easy win in the Under-20 boys’ 200m.

The Bog Walk High runner who has ambitions of the Class One sprint double in his final year at the ISSA Boys Champs, ran 21.14 seconds to win the 200m beating Ardene High’s Beresford Sweeney (21.31 seconds) after winning the 100m on Saturday.

Chad Walker of St Jago won the Under-18 boys’ 200m in an impressive 21.25 seconds to finish well ahead of Calabar’s Fabian Hewitt (21.92) and Hujay Cornwall of St Elizabeth Technical (22.02 seconds).

Natalliah White of St Jago was on course for a double, but was disqualified after winning the 100m on Saturday, but she copped the Under-18 girls’ 200m in 24.28 seconds beating the Edwin Allen pair of Shellice Clarke (24.46) and Alliyah Hopkins (24.58).

Edwin Allen’s Saquikine Cameron was an easy winner in the Under-20 girls’ final, clocking 23.44 seconds to beat 100m champion Kedisha Dallas of GC Foster (24.03). Shian Hyde of St Catherine High was third in 24.07.

St Jago boys swept the 400m final with Nathan Allen winning the Under-20 race in 46.11 seconds, beating his teammate Ivan Henry (46.54), while Marco Doodnaughtsingh of Kemps Hill High took third in 46.84.

World Youth Championships gold medallist Martin Manley won the Under-18 final in 46.41 seconds, well ahead of Kingston College’s Nathaniel Bann, who ran 47.51 seconds with Nigel Ellis of St Elizabeth Technical third in 47.84.

World Youth Championships bronze medallist Tiffany James of Papine High won the Under-18 girls’ 400m in 53.76 seconds, beating Hydel’s Taqece Duggan (54.73) and Moisha Barnes of Edwin Allen (55.14).

Balaclava High’s Dawnalee Loney ran a well-timed race to win the Under-20 section in 52.87, just beating race favourite Yanique McNeil of Vere Technical (53.00 seconds) and Camira Haughton of Edwin Allen who was third in 53.01 seconds.

Loney, the COCAA Western Champs gold medallist, was fourth with 60 metres to go before powering past the runners ahead of her to get to the line first.

Wolmer’s Boys’ Jaheel Hyde, who won the Under-18 400m hurdles on Saturday, retuned to win the 110m hurdles in a smart 13.19 seconds, the best on the day for any male sprint hurdler.

St Jago’s Roje Jackson-Chin was second with 13.33 seconds with Wolmer’s Boys’ Khori Bennett third in 14.09 seconds.

The Under-20 boys’ 110m hurdles title went to Jamaica College’s Tyler Mason, who ran 13.46 seconds to finish ahead of Kingston College’s Jovaine Atkinson (13.92 seconds) and St Elizabeth Technical’s Marvin Williams (13.78).

Williams had won the 400m hurdles the previous day.

Sydney Marshal of Manchester High won the Under-18 girls’ 100m hurdles in 13.64 seconds to beat Janeek Brown of Wolmer’s Girls’ (13.68 seconds) and St Jago’s Safia Thompson (13.93), while IAAF World Youth Championships gold medallist Yanique Thompson held off St Jago’s Peta-Gay Williams to win the Under-20 girls’ race in13.55 seconds. Williams was clocked in at 13.60 seconds.

In one of the biggest surprises of the weekend, Wolmer’s Boys’ Christoff Bryan failed to make a clearance in the Under-20 boys’ high jump that was won by Jamaica College’s Clayton Brown with a 2.13m clearance.

Bryan had won the high jump at the recent Gibson Relays, equalling his personal best from 2012 and could still be given the nod by the selectors as the second-placed yesterday. Kingston College’s Shavaun Dawson only managed 1.90m.

Cornwall College’s Odaine Lewis won the Under-20 triple jump with a big personal best 15.86m beating Jamaica College’s Brown (15.77m).

Lewis, who won at Western Champs, came into the championships with a personal best of 14.68m and got the winning mark on his first effort of the day.

Vere Technical’s Britny Dixon won the Under-18 girls’ 1,500m in 4:37.17 minutes, beating Junelle Bromfield of STETHS (4:40.02) and Ashawni Robb of Edwin Allen (4:43.28).

Sasha-Gay White of Vere won the Under-20 race beating St Jago’s Monique McPherson and Holmwood’s Shanieke Watson.

Kingston College’s Shane Buchanan was a surprise winner in the Under-18 boys 1,500m beating a late-charging Jauavani James of STETHS and Terrol Atkinson of Calabar High.

Spalding High’s Chadoye Dawson won the Under-20 boys’ 1,500m in 3:55.83 minutes beating Kingston College’s Delano Rochester and Munro College’s Tariq Fullerton.

Vashon McCarthy of Ascot High and Warren Barrett of Cornwall College repeated their first- and second-place finishes from the shot put on Saturday in the discus throw yesterday.

In cool conditions and a constant drizzle, McCarthy, the defending Carifta discus throw champion, won with 52.20m, while Barrett, who had just two legal throws, had a best of 51.07m. Wolmer’s Boys’ Malik Lynch took third with 48.50m.

Demar Gayle of Edwin Allen High added the Under-20 boys’ shot put title to the discus throwing in 16.91m yesterday.

Edwin Allen High’s Janel Fullerton, the Under-18 girls’ discus winner on Saturday, won the shot put yesterday throwing 14.79m to beat Holmwood Technical’s Georgetta Samuels (13.11m) and Convent Of Mercy’s Ashley Jarman (12.50m).

Obrien Wasom of Jamaica College won the Under-18 long jump with 7.16m, beating St Jago’s Roje Jackson Chin (6.94m) and Kingston College’s Shammawi Wellington (6.93m).
