Beyond the finish line — Remaldo Rose
Remaldo Rose
THE 100-and-200m specialist was probably the “Usain Bolt” of his Boys’ and Girls’ Championships days. However, injury riddled his potentially illustrious career.
In 2003, young Rose, representing Camperdown High, took the 100m race by storm, breaking the record three consecutive times at the Championships — in the heats, semis, and ultimately, the finals. That year, he also took the 200m title, and returned the following year to clip both titles in his first year in Class One.
The young track star matriculated into Jamaica’s World Junior team, copping bronze in the 100m in 2004, and anchoring the 4x100m team to silver that same year. He took gold in the 100m at the Carifta games in 2006, and was a part of the winning 4x100m team.
Despite obtaining a 10.20 personal best at 100m in 2011, injuries continued to plague the embattled Rose, so he decided to hang up his spikes in 2011.
Rose became a part of the coaching staff at Racers Track Club, working with the likes of Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Warren Weir and his Camperdown coach Glen Mills.
