GRANVILLE, Trelawny — Baca Star United have taken over the lead in Zone Two of the Trelawny Football Association Monymusk White Overproof Rum Division One competition after scoring a 1-0 win over Granville FC in their second-round game at Granville on Wednesday.

Deondre Armstrong’s first-half goal gave Baca Star their fourth win of the campaign and avenged a first-round 1-0 loss to Granville.

Baca Star United are now on 12 points, one more than Fire FC, who were held 2-2 by Muschett High in Wakefield.

Garel Gooden scored twice for the Muschett schoolboys who led before having to come back to earn the point that moved them to eighth and third in Zone Two.

Gooden gave Muschett High the lead in the third minute, but goals from Oshane Johnson in the 32nd minute and Nathan Samuels in the 44th gave Fire FC the lead.

Gooden hit back a minute after Samuels’ striker to deny Fire their second win over the schoolboys this season after they had won the first-round game 2-0.

Upsetters FC maintained their lead in Zone A despite a 3-3 draw against Rio Bueno on Tuesday, which saw them having to come from behind three times to earn a point and deny Rio Bueno a second win this season.

Ralston Knight, who scored a double, gave the home team Rio Bueno the lead after 29 minutes but Oneil Samuels equalised in the 43rd minute.

Lance Wilson scored in the 44th minute to give Rio Bueno the lead at half-time, but Nelson Adams scored in the first minute of the second half for Upsetters to get them back on level terms.

Knight then got his second goal in the 78th minute, but Marco Watson’s 83rd-minute strike ensured the points were shared.

In another game on Tuesday, Demarrk Campbell scored in the 68th minute for Sherwood United as they beat Daniel Town 1-0 and took over second place in Zone A on 10 points.
