JCA still wants Centre of Excellence
WHITEHOUSE, Westmoreland — The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) is still seeking sponsorship to set up their centre of excellence, says president Wilford ‘Billy’ Heaven.
Heaven, who was the guest speaker at Saturday’s launch of the Westmoreland Cricket Association’s Twenty20 competition at Sandals Whitehouse, said the centre of excellence is something they intend to have in place soon.
“This is something we have to engage business community in as we believe that a centre of excellence is integral to the development of cricket anywhere in the world,” Heaven said.
The centre of excellence is one of the objectives the newly elected JCA executive is yet to get off the ground, according to Heaven, who listed a number of initiatives they had promised that have been started.
The JCA president said among the new committees they had formed is the Player Development Committee that would see to the development of the national players off the field of play.
The JCA, he reported, had also secured sponsorship for two young cricketers to attend the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus through the Sports Development Foundation.
Meanwhile, Heaven said there would be a cricket component to the Independence celebrations in August as in addition to celebrating Cricket Week, they had been asked by the government to organise a game during the period.
