AS a policeman sworn to serve and protect, Singjay Alladice has stepped out of his denim and is promoting his single Why Why Dem a Tek Innocent Life.

Produced by Caveman Production in January 2013, the single, the singjay feels it is still relevant today.

The district constable, who is assigned to the City Centre Police Station in downtown Kingston, said he was moved to pen Why Why Dem a Tek Innocent Life because of what he was seeing while on duty.

“Too much violence and crime in the country. Every day somebody dies innocently, especially in the inner city. I just want them to stop the unneccesary killings and get back to the days when everyone just live peaceful and have fun,” the singjay told the Jamaica Observer.

The 41-year-old, whose given name is Michael Alladice, said an accompanying video was done last month.

“I hope the youth dem listen and get back to what things were before,” he continued.

Born in Kingston, the singjay grew up in Trelawny with his grandmother and attended Cedric Titus High in that parish.

He started pursuing a career as an electrical technician. However, in 1998 he was called to serve in the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

“I always found myself singing. At 12 years old, my brother and I wrote a song. It was not until one day a colleague heard me and encouraged me to take it further,” he said.

In 2012, he got his break when he recorded People a Send Dem Threat at Ball a Fire Studio in Kingston. He has since released Clean and Sexy Gal, Money Factory and Gal Christmas Come.
