Gabriella Reno makes statement
SINGER Gabriella Reno was not born when Peter Tosh was alive, but the up-and-coming singer/songwriter shares the reggae legend’s rebellious streak.
Last Friday, she premiered her video to the song, Love You to B….clat during her performance at Redbones Blues Café in St Andrew.
The Knollis, Bog Walk native says it was not inspired by a Tosh song with a similar profane title.
“It started as a joke song about one of my best friends, a person whom I strongly disliked for most of my teen years, then turned out to be the best, realest friend a girl could ever ask for,” Reno told the Jamaica Observer.
“As the song evolved, we made it into a romantic story and the music video pretty much reflects this.”
Last month, Reno opened for Toni Braxton and Chrisette Michele at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival in Trelawny.
Among the songs she did on Friday was Love You to B….clat which created a stir. Hard to Find, Roll me Up, Sugar Mama, Royals, Empire Crumble, Happy to Have You Here, Round and Round, Struck by Lightning and Hurricane Coming completed her list of songs.
Last Friday, Reno was accompanied by harmoniser Jamila James and guitarist Samuele Vivian, who produced her forthcoming album As The Sea.
Earlier, fire-blower Shem Heliodore literally set the venue ablaze with his pyrotechnics while promising singer Jane MacGozine gave a solid set with the songs Black Skin, Babylon and Irie.
