KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica face an uphill task against defending champions Barbados after the visitors ended Sunday’s third day on 162-2 in their second innings and an overall lead of 381 runs in the fifth-round Regional Four-day match at Sabina Park.
After off-spinner Ashley Nurse took four wickets to help dismiss Jamaica for 204, the Barbados captain Kraigg Brathwaite made a free scoring 91 in his team’s bid to push for quick runs ahead of Monday’s expected early declaration.
Kirk Edwards, a century-maker in the first innings, is not out on 21, while left-hander Jonathan Carter is yet to get off the mark.
Play on the fourth and final day is set to commence at 10:00 am.
Scores: Barbados 423 (142.3 overs) and 162-2 (46 overs); Jamaica 204 (84.2 overs)
Jamaica may be without the batting services of all-rounder David Bernard after he slipped and hurt his knee while trying to field a ball on the boundary rope on Saturday. The word from the Jamaica camp is that the 32-year-old will undergo an MRI scan on Monday to assess the injury.
On Sunday, Jamaica resumed from their overnight 150-4 with Nkrumah Bonner on 31 and Lambert on zero, but ended their innings on 204-9 as Bernard failed go out to the middle.
Bonner was dismissed for 50.
