Drought forces water lock off across Corporate Area
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) says that a continued precipitous decline in inflows as well as network problems have forced the disruption of water supply to a wide number of areas in the Corporate Area.
As a result the following residential areas and environs will be supplied with piped water between 4:00 am and 8:00 am each morning and again between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm each evening:
August Town
Elleston Flats, Bedward Gardens, Tavern
Hope Pastures
Beverly Hills
Mountain View/East Kingston
Norbrook
Manor Park down to Grants Pen and Dunrobin
Commercial districts such as New Kingston, Half Way Tree, Cross Roads and downtown Kingston will be supplied primarily between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm daily, until further advised the NWC said.
Also sections of Portmore served by the Rio Cobre/Tulloch Springs Water supply system will be supplied between 5:00 pm and 8:00 am.
The deficit of supply against demand has forced NWC to impose restrictions, which may have to be intensified over the next days and weeks, the water supply company cautioned. The result is that many customers in the Corporate Area, depending on their source of supply, their elevation and location on the network as well as other variables, will experience periods of no piped water supply and or low water pressure, the NWC added.
