Attorney charged for breaches of sex offences act
KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) — The Deputy Chairman of The Jamaica Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel, Lennox Gayle, has been charged by the police in connection with what is believed to be a prostitution ring.
Gayle, an attorney-at-law, was charged on Wednesday by investigators attached to the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID) for alleged breaches of the Sex Offences Act and Consumer Protection Act.
Gayle, 45, who reportedly operates a massage parlour in Montego Bay in the western parish of St James, has been charged with living off the earnings of prostitution and misleading and deceptive conduct.
His arrest followed a raid on the massage parlour along Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay on Saturday, in which seven women were arrested for alleged prostitution.
Investigators allege that over the past two years, the attorney has been employing women from different parishes to work as prostitutes under the guise of being masseuses.
Head of OCID, Senior Superintendent Clifford Chambers said the arrest is part of a major crackdown on human trafficking and prostitution by his unit.
The attorney who was released on bail late Wednesday, is scheduled to appear in court on May 5.
