A beauty of a goat

Animal attracts much attention at Denbigh show

IF there was a prize for the most photographed animal at the recently concluded Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show in Clarendon a goat named ‘Boy Anderson’ would have easily won it for the many admirers he attracted.

The 11-month-old mixed breed animal, who was awarded a medal for being the most beautiful goat in the Native Goat category, was like a magnet capturing the attention of everyone who entered the livestock section where he was on display with other goats and sheep.

From the very young to the old, they could not help snapping photographs of the animal on their mobile phones and cameras and even taking videos.

Boy Anderson’s black hair which sat atop its head like a wig drew curious onlookers by the minute.

“Him boasy sah, come een like dem bring him a hairdresser,” said one man, as he stood admiring the goat.

“Him head look betta than nuff wig,” a female onlooker chimed in.

Said one young man who was walking by but was forced to stop, “How him suh pretty. A first mi see a goat pretty suh.”

One woman was so besotted with the goat, she openly proclaimed her love for him.

“Him nice eeh, mi wud ah buy yuh now; mi wud ah carry yuh home now. I love him,” she said before facing the goat and uttering “I love you.”

“Me wud a build a room a mi yaad fi yuh and put on a good lock pon it cause mi nuh waan nobody fi ramp round him,” she added.

Proud owner Linton Anderson, a retired builder from Four Paths in Clarendon, told the Jamaica Observer on the final day of the agricultural show on Sunday that the goat had received non-stop attention since the three-day event started.

“I never expected this,” he said, while mentioning that even the government ministers had heard about the goat and had stopped by to meet ‘Boy Anderson’.

“Him tek all di attention. From Friday him on Facebook, Twitter, everything,” Anderson said.

According to the goat’s owner, he bought him last December to be a companion to another goat kid that he had which was crying non-stop.

However, he said, people in his community, who were equally in awe by the goat’s beauty encouraged him to take him to Denbigh.

“I was very happy that I did as he won a prize and it was really exciting,” said Anderson.
