Shaggy’s Boombastic single hits 2x platinum in New Zealand
Thirty-one years after it was first released commercially, Boombastic, the title track from Shaggy’s third studio album, has now been certified 2x platinum in New Zealand.
The certification, which measures over 60,000 units in sales and streaming equivalent, was issued on June 11.
Regarded as his signature record, the song Boombastic, which samples the King Floyd recording Baby Let Me Kiss You (a remix of Boombastic released in 1996 samples the Marvin Gaye hit Let’s Get it On), became the first dancehall song to debut at #1 in the United Kingdom.
Boombastic served as the second single from the RIAA-platinum certified album Boombastic, and its success helped the 14-track set nab the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.
Produced by Sting International and Robert Livingston, Boombastic was a major success worldwide. It topped charts in Australia, El Salvador, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden and the United Kingdom. It also made the top 10 in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands.
The song was previously certified gold in Austria, France and Germany. It has earned platinum certifications in Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Norway.
