JDF, Kingston for Senior Cup final

JAMAICA Defence Force (JDF) and Kingston CC will contest the final of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) two-day Senior Cup after favourable results against Melbourne CC and Manchester CA, respectively.

On yesterday’s second day of the semi-final at Up Park Camp, the hosts, JDF, hammered last season’s champions Melbourne by nine wickets.

Set 54 runs for victory after dismissing Melbourne for a paltry 122 in their second innings, the army men cruised to 57-1.

Scores: Melbourne 269 & 122; JDF 337 & 57-1.

Earlier, JDF, resuming from their overnight 204-5, piled on the runs and were eventually dismissed for 337. Iva Johnson hit 48, while Leighton Leslie chipped in with 34.

Left-hander Rasheed Outar, a scorer of three centuries in the competition this season, led the way with 98 on day one.

Melbourne’s left-arm spinner Christopher Lamont grabbed 7-65. Batting a second time, Melbourne could only muster 122 with

Jon-Ross Campbell hitting 55.

Joseph Palmer, bowling medium pace, was JDF’s best bowler, taking 5-25, while seamer Leslie had 3-31.

In the short run-chase, Jermaine Harrison hit 34, while Bereston Reid made an unbeaten 21.

In the other semi-final encounter, Kingston CC took first innings honours in the drawn match with Manchester CA, to advance.

Scores: Kingston 332 & 226-4; Manchester 201.

Manchester were bowled out for 201 after being reduced to 34-4 at the close of the opening day.

Left-handed batsman David Powell top-scored for Manchester with 69.

Kingston’s off-spinner Akeem Fraser took 4-55, while left-arm slow bowler Patrick Harty ended with 4-66.

In their second turn at the crease, Kingston batted patiently to 226-4 knowing they were already ahead based on the first innings show.

Brian Clarke struck 78.

The final is expected to be played this weekend. The venue has not yet been announced.
