MP welcomes new ganja development
KINGSTON, Jamaica — North Eastern St Elizabeth MP Raymond Pryce has welcomed the announcement by Minister of Justice Mark Golding toward ganja cultivation.
At a press briefing at Jamaica House, the justice minister explained that under special licenses, the cultivation of ganja for medical research and related purposes will be allowed in Jamaica.
MP Pryce, who reignited the debate locally within the Parliament for reforms to the Dangerous Drugs Act, which criminalises the cultivation, possession and processing of Cannabis (Ganja) explained:
“This is a bold and refreshing move by the Simpson Miller administration to maintain Jamaica’s leadership in the field of medical research and development of products which can help humanity from ganja. The work of pioneers such as Manley West, Albert Lockhart and Henry Lowe has not been in vain and it is expected that Jamaica will recover and continue its leadership in this important area of human development.”
