U17 Boyz defeat Martinique 4-0 in CFU Championships
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Jamaica’s Under-17 team kick-started their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Championship on a winning note defeating Martinique 4-0 in their Group B game at the Sylvio Cator Stadium Monday evening.
Alex Marshall opened the scoring in 16th minute, lobbying goalkeeper Mathieu Madkaud then found Fabian Grant with a high freekick for him to nod home in the 75th minute. Substitute Nicholas Nelson beautiful curling effort from just outside the box in the 85th minute made the game safe and Deshane Beckford’s scissor kick put the icing on the cake.
Jamaica joined Cuba at the top of group with three points but are second on goal difference following Cuba’s massive 5-0 trouncing of Guadeloupe in the curtain raiser.
Two teams will automatically qualify from Group B to the CFU semi-finals and into the CONCACAF FIFA 2015 World Cup qualifier set for Honduras in February.
Jamaica will play Guadeloupe on Wednesday while Cuba take on Martinique.
