2 men nabbed with ganja strapped to bodies before boarding flights
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Two men were arrested before boarding their flights in separate incidents at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) and Sangster’s International Airport (SIA) Monday, after police found ganja strapped to their bodies.
In the first incident, 49-year-old Denton Dacres arrived at the NMIA and checked in on a flight destined for Trinidad. While proceeding through the search area, he was stopped and searched. Three packages of ganja weighing 2.3 lbs were found strapped to his body.
About 10:00 am, 21-year-old Shamarie McNamee was in the process of checking in on a flight to the Bahamas at SIA when he was searched and two packages found strapped to his body. The packages were checked and found to contain 54 pellets wrapped in masking tape, with hashish weighing one pound.
Both men were reportedly charged for possession of and dealing in ganja and attempting to export ganja.
Dacres and McNamee are scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Criminal Court and Montego Resident Magistrate’s Court, respectively, on Friday, January 16.
