STILL TRACKING CHANGES OF EQUIPMENT

There were three instances on Saturday’s 11-race programme where changes in equipment made the difference between winning and losing. With the removal of the tongue tie, the Harry Parsard-conditioned Superior Quality was a winner. Ridden by Omar Walker, Superior Quality drew away from his five rivals turning for home to win handily by nine-and-a-half lengths in a respectable time of 1:20:0 minutes going over 1,300 metres. In the seventh race Brilliant Ace got home with the removal of the visor. The removal of the cheek pieces did the trick for the Anthony Nunes-trained Eternal Joy. Eternal Joy (Dane Nelson) made all the running to beat Blame It On Me and Alison Bee over 1,200 metres. Please watch these changes.

NINE HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY

Nine horses were claimed on Saturday. Water Wave was claimed from Winston Morris by Lorne Kirlew for Ripon Racing Stables for $350,000; Persian Belle was claimed by Anthony Nunes for Stephan Narinesingh for $350,000 from Neive Graham, and the Ryan Darby-trained Exclusive Prince was taken by Tensang Chung for George Miles also for $350,000 from the second race. In the fifth race, Diferentgeneration was taken for $450,000 by Lawrence Freemantle for Carlton Watson, and Light Brigade was claimed from Clifford Atkinson (Jr) by Boris McIntosh acting as both trainer and owner for $450,000. Steven Todd claimed Insane Bolt for himself from Lawrence Freemantle for $180,000, Green Beret was claimed from Paul Smith by Neive Graham for Garth Samuels for $180,000, and Olympic Prospect was taken from Ryan Darby by Welsh Soutar for Sylvester Subaran for $180,000 from the eighth race. The Anthony Nunes-trained Eternal Joy was claimed by Welsh Soutar for We’re Family for $180,000.

WALKER, HALLEDEEN IN GOOD FORM

Jockeys Omar Walker and Robert Halledeen are really enjoying good form since the start of the year. On Saturday they both posted doubles. Walker’s winners were Superior Quality for trainer Harry Parsard in the first race and Ras Emanuel for trainer Peter McMaster in the ninth race. Halledeen guided the Marlon Anderson-trained Brilliant Ace to a four-and-a-half-length victory, and then completed his double aboard 3-5 favourite Insane Bolt for trainer Lawrence Freemantle. With their two wins, Walker and Halledeen moved to five winners, in a three-way tie for second place with Shane Ellis behind Jevvanne Erwin, who is on seven in the jockeys’ standing.

PRINCE ANDREW COMES GOOD

After a long wait including being claimed, the six-year-old bay gelding Prince Andrew finally found the path to the winners’ enclosure, winning the Allan E ‘Billy’ Williams Memorial Trophy going over 1,400 metres at Caymanas Park on Saturday. With Paul Francis riding for trainer Neive Graham, Prince Andrew came with a strong run on the outside of horses turning for home to beat Red Flag (O’Brien White) and Scoop Jordyne (Prince Holder) by half a length. The winning time was 1:25:0 minutes.
