Find The Ball competition winners ecstatic about outcome

“Wow…I am just happy to win the first prize in the Find The Ball competition. I am not really a fan of football, but I am just grateful for the winnings today (Friday). Words right now can’t really explain the feeling, but I am really happy to be the first-place winner for the first month and I am surely going to enter the second month’s competition,” an elated Markesha Johnson, winner of the Observer’s Find The Ball January competition, said after being presented with her cheque by Danville Walker, the newspaper’s managing director.

Johnson went home to Portland with her winner’s cheque of $75,000. Everett Gordon and Andre Williams, second and third in the competition, received $15,000 and $10,000, respectively.

“I feel really great about my second-place finish as I have never won anything like this before. This promotion is really a good promotion, as there is something in the paper to attract more readers and to keep current readers of the newspaper,” said Gordon, who hails from St Catherine.

Williams then warned his fellow competitors that he will be coming out in full swing for February’s test.

“I was introduced to this competition by my girlfriend Lillian Cunningham and she told me to enter and I am just happy to be a winner. I am now aiming for first place in February,” he noted.

Manager of Advertising, Marketing and Communications at the Jamaica Observer, Natalie Chin-Watkins, said that the aim of the Find The Ball competition was to give back to the readers of the newspaper.

“We felt that the Observer should not only offer news, entertainment, lifestyle and the products, but we should also offer things that are fun and interesting to our readers, so the activity of finding the ball is supposed to be fun, but also to give our readers the opportunity to win something, hence the cash prizes,” Chin-Watkins said.

She also thanked readers who had supported the competition by sending in entries.

“I was overwhelmed by the support and we anticipate that the second phase which has already started will get better in terms of the number of people entering,” she added.

The competition, which started on January 1, will continue until March 31.
