It’s official for Gregg
KYLE Gregg was officially recognised as winner of Rally Jamaica 2014 at its awards function held at the KIG Showroom on Spanish Town Road, recently.
“It feels great to finally hold and see my name on the trophy,” Gregg told Auto.
Rally Jamaica, which ran from November 21 to 22 in Bog Walk, had a contentious ending when Gregg after a second day, fought back to the front of the field only to fing his resulting win under protest by the Jetcon Racing Team consisting of Joel Jackson and Dmitri Dawkins. The issue surrounded the implementation of a new rule that allowed competitors to miss stages but still be eligible for overall victory.
This forced the organisers Rallysports Promotions Limited to delay the final results.
The event stewards, after weeks of deliberation, threw out both Jetcon’s protest and appeal. This moved Gregg back to the top of the leader board and Jackson back to second overall. Third was Jordan Powell and co-driver Robert Bahadoursingh in their Honda Civic. Gregg also collected the class JN8 victory.
In the other classes, JC1 went to Sebastien Rae and Rameses McGregor. Bobby Marshall with female co-driver Michelle Laidlaw won JA3. Powell collected JA2 honours. Nigel Wilmot and navigator Leroy Spence won the Sunday Cup, for those who retired on the first day of competition but managed to return and finish on the final day.
