When did you start your career as a groom?

My career as a groom started in 2010 at the stables of trainer Anthony Smith. I was involved in the sport from a younger age as my father (Claude) is a groom, while my brother (Craig Thompson) and nephew (Jeremiah Ramsay) are both blacksmiths.

Which horse was your first winner?

My first winner was Cantare ridden by Dane Nelson for trainer Wayne DaCosta. I was so happy that day to win my first race. Cantare was running some good races and was very fit as well. I was confident that Nelson could get the job and he did. It was a good feeling…a day that I won’t forget.

Which horse was your longest odds winner?

Double The Honey with Harriston Lewis at 33-1, also for trainer Wayne DaCosta. I was so excited that day as we ran one, two, three, four in that race and I was happy that it was my horse that came out on top. What made it even sweeter was the fact that I got the chance to take a double as I had Rum Punch in the Derby but unfortunately he ran sixth.

Which is the best horse that you have groomed?

I would have to say that Rum Punch is the best horse that I have groomed. He is a classy horse that is always giving his best whenever he races. I won three races with him. I just love the horse.

Which is the best horse that you have seen race at Caymanas Park?

I have seen a lot of talented racehorses here at Caymanas Park, but to me Saint Cecelia stood out. She is an outstanding racehorse, winning her races impressively. She has won 14 consecutive races as well as four consecutive Caribbean Sprint Championships, which is very good. She had won the Gold Cup already and she was always carrying the weight for the other horses. She won races from 1000 metres to 2,000 metres, which says a lot.

Who influenced your career the most?

Everyone has been good to me from since I am in racing. My friends, family and the community of Gregory Park are always behind me and I thank everyone for their input.
