Warrior show
Young reggae star, Jamar ‘Chronixx’ McNaughton continued to rock Jamaica with his Capture Land tour of the island. The penultimate performance of the four-venue event took place at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium at Jamaica College (JC) on Saturday night.
The event started in some controversy as many would-be patrons learnt that there would be no tickets sold at the gate and thus were turned back from outside the venue.
Only those who had purchased tickets at one of the official retailers were granted access.
Despite that, the vibe inside JC was relaxed with the event beginning at the stated time. Early patrons were welcomed with musical segments from the Dread and Terrible Project, a concept spearheaded by Chronixx himself and accompanied by the ZInc Fence Band.
After about an hour of relaxing serenades, laced with sporadic dubs from the headliner, the main event kicked off with Chronixx performing his song Alright from the classic Rising Sun Riddim.
This, of course, prompted a visit from the other artiste in that song, Kabaka Pyramid which sent the Kingston crowd wild. He was not the only visiting artiste to show up, as Kelissa also swayed the crowd with her melodious voice.
The next segment of the concert had Chronixx performing some of his gentler, love songs such as Rain Music and Somewhere. He then got the crowd to sing along to every word as he sang Smile Jamaica and all of Who Knows.
Chronixx then got into his militant mode as he explained to Kingston why there were all living on captured land.
After he performed that track, the Zinc Fence Band smoothly transitioned to allow breakout Jesse Royal to come on stage to perform his hit Modern Day Judas. This hyped up the auditorium, but they were even more frenzied when the first strings of Here Comes Trouble began to play.
The crowd and Chronixx needed a rest after rocking so much and they got it in the form of another wonderful session from Zinc Fence.
The final guest performances came from Dre Island and Keznamdi, who were both energetic although the latter enjoyed a great reception from the females in attendance.
When Chronixx returned, he gave a soulful rendition of Like a Whistle, in which he dimmed the lights and made the crowd reflect on their lives. He then switched to Behind Curtains before ending the segment with Spurlina.
Odd Ras and Warrior were fitting reminders to Kingston of Chronixx’s unique style and lyrics.
He found time to bring on one final surprise guest.
His father came on stage over a dancehall beat to display his lyrical prowess and show where Chronixx got his talent from.
Chronixx ended the night freestyling over the dancehall beat thanking the audience for the support as well as promising those who couldn’t attend — due to the show being sold-out — that he would keep a free event when he could afford it.
