The Milex Eagles fought off hot contenders, the Unsquashables, to advance to the semi-finals of the 2015 KPMG Squash League as quarter-final action unfolded last Thursday at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston.

Things got off to a good start for the Eagles when Jaime Douglas beat Luke Roberts 22-29, 21-19, 21-15 to give the former champions the lead. However, senior national player Joey Levy then beat Shane Slater 21-15, 21-18, 21-13 to put the Unsquashables back in contention.

This sparked a showdown between senior national player Bruce Levy and All Jamaica Under-17 boys’ champion Tahjia Lumley. Lumley prevailed 21-15, 18-21, 21-14, 23-21; but the determined veteran Levy made the youngster work for every point.

In contrast, the Mande Villains sailed into the semi-finals after trouncing Three Plus One 3-0. Dominic Cover gave the team the early lead by beating O’Neil Johnson 21-15, 11-21, 21-16, 21-19. Then All Jamaica women’s champion Alyssa Mullings followed on by whipping Andrew Shim 21-11, 21-14, 21-15. Although his team was safely through to the semis, Steve Mullings didn’t hold back in beating Richard Lee 21-13, 21-17, 21-13 to complete an undisputed defeat.

In action at the University of Technology courts, the UTech Saints ran Di Drivaz off the road. Di Drivaz struck first when Kyle Gregg defeated Andre Wright 23-21, 21-17, 21-19; but then Nathlee Boreland stormed back to beat David Summerbell 21-18, 21-8, 21-19 and even things up.

At first the decider appeared to be going in Di Drivaz’ favour when Stephanie McConnell won the first game against Mario O’Connor. However, O’Connor then dug in and won 15-21, 21-15, 21-17, 21-15 to transport the Saints to the semi-finals.

The final quarter-final match between the UTech Knights and the Screaming Eagles was scheduled to be played last Friday at the Liguanea Club. The winner of that match will be up against the Milex Eagles in the semi-finals, while the UTech Saints will take on the Mande Villains.

The semi-finals are scheduled for tomorrow at the Liguanea Club.
