A second policeman was yesterday arrested and charged in relation to the March 6 fatal shooting of a man in Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew.

The accused, Constable Dain Reid, who is assigned to the Lawrence Tavern Police Station, was charged with giving a false statement to the Independent Commission of Investigations.

Reid was taken to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court where he was offered bail in the sum of $100,000 by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey. He was ordered to surrender his travel documents and stop orders were placed on him at all ports.

Reid will next appear in court on April 27, which is the same day that Constable Kevon Gordon — the other policeman charged in the matter — is scheduled to return to court.

Gordon, who is also assigned to the Lawrence Tavern Police Station, was detained on March 13 and subsequently charged with murder over the shooting death of 44-year-old Garfield Coburn. He was offered $250,000 bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on March 16.

According to the police, Coburn was shot after allegedly stabbing at Gordon after the policeman went to a bar in Lawrence Tavern to order that the music being played be turned off because no permit had been issued.

Residents of the area have refuted the report.

A video surfaced on social media last Friday showing the confrontation between Gordon and Coburn. The video showed Gordon attempting to arrest Coburn, who appeared to be resisting. The policeman later unholstered his firearm after which an explosion was heard and Coburn fell to the ground.
