Walshy Fire to blaze Beach J’Ouvert
MAJOR Lazer’s Walshy Fire is slated to be one of the featured acts for Bacchanal Jamaica’s Beach J’Ouvert scheduled for James Bond Beach in Oracabessa, on Saturday, April 4.
“Every year we try to bring something new and trendy to Beach Jouvert and you must agree we couldn’t get more hip than Walshy Fire. We have no doubt that he will bring us many additional young patrons as we work to ensure the continuity of carnival in Jamaica,” said Charmaine Franklin, a director of Bacchanal Jamaica.
Florida-born, Jamaica-raised Walshy Fire (given name Leighton Walsh) is the younger brother of cricket legend Courtney Walsh.
Rostered as a selector on Black Chiney soundsystem and Major Lazer (since 2011), Walshy Fire made a name for himself in electronic dance music (EDM) and the dancehall genre.
As part of Major Lazer, he has worked with a number of Jamaican artistes. Their 2009 album, Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do, contains collaborations with Mr Lex, Mr Vegas, Ms Thing, Jovi Rockwell, Future Fambo, Leftside, Turbulence, TOK, Einstein, Vybz Kartel and Supa Hype.
Major Lazer has also done remixes for Busy Signal’s Watch Out For This (Bumaye), Gyptian’s Hold Yuh, Popcaan’s Party Shot, and Gal A Bubble by Konshens.
The group also produced No Doubt’s hit song, Push and Shove.
