Barbican to be relegated from RSPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Barbican FC’s relegation from the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) was all but confirmed on Thursday after they went down 1-3 to reigning champions Montego Bay United at the Barbican Complex.
Owayne Gordon (13th minute), Dino Williams (32nd) and Allan Ottey (76th) were the scorers for Montego Bay.
Donovan Segree notched the consolation goal for Barbican in the 79th minute.
After the loss, cellar-team Barbican, experiencing their first season in the nation’s top flight, are left on 24 points, nine behind 10th-placed Sporting Central FC. With only three match days remaining in the preliminary stage and a burdensome -29 goal difference, Barbican’s fate is virtually sealed.
On the other hand, third-placed Montego Bay (52 points) are on the cusp of sealing their place in the semi-finals.
Runaway leaders Arnett Gardens FC (60 points) and last season’s beaten finalists Waterhouse FC (54) have already confirmed places to the last-four.
