EIGHT HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY

Eight horses were claimed on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday. Eternal Joy was claimed from Welsh Soutar by Colin Ferguson for Patrick Hall for $250,000, Marshall Blaze was taken by Gordon Davis for Junior Golding for $250,000 from Carl Anderson, and Sir Von was claimed from Patrick Taylor by Patrick Fong for Wilbert Bagwandeen also for $250,000 from the first race. In the third race, Paul Smith claimed Jada’sfabuloustour for Delleta Brusa from Donovan Plummer for $350,000; Welsh Soutar took Technocat from Ryan Darby for himself for $350,000; Maurice Crooks claimed Primero from Wayne Parchment for We’re Family for $350,000, and Ryan Darby took Jessie James for Raphael Gordon for $350,000 from Tensang Cung. The Carl Anderson-trained Runcatrun was claimed by Victor Williams for Sir Charles for $180,000 from the eighth race.

CHANGES OF EQUIPMENT

There were three instances on Saturday’s 10-race programme where changes in equipment made the difference between winning and losing. With the removal of the cheek pieces, Little Tuff Man, with Zac Meikle in the saddle, was a winner by a head at the maiden level going over 1,200 metres. The introduction of the visor and the removal of the tongue tie made the difference for Lord Chepso. With the equipment change, Lord Chepso, with Delroy Beharie riding for trainer Patrick Lynch, got home by half- a-length going over 1,000 metres straight. Running without the blinkers but with the visor on, Storming cruised home by two lengths to release the maiden tag going 1,100 metres. Watch these changes.

OLD STAGER SIR VON WINS AGAIN

At age eight, Sir Von has had his share of problems. He has to be gingerly treated and taken care of, yet the old warrior continues every now and again to find what it takes to win a race. On Saturday, Sir Von notched his first win for the year in a claiming ($250,000 – $210,000) event over 1,200 metres. After engaging in a thrilling duel with Eternal Joy approaching the home bend, Sir Von with Richard Mairs doing the riding honours pulled clear at the two-furlong pole for a length-and-a half victory. Sir Von has now earned over $6.3 million in his career.

RAGING PROSPECT SIGNALS RETURN TO FORM

After running below par on numerous occasions, Raging Prospect turned around his form and easily got the better of a good field in an Overnight Allowance event at Caymanas Park last Saturday. Trained by Fitzroy Glispie and ridden by O’Brien White, the six-year-old chestnut gelding by He’stherealthing – Raging Fury by Al’s River Cat cruised home by a length in the three-year-old and upward one-mile event. The front-running Military Move (Winston Griffiths) was prominent throughout the race to finish second, while last year’s Derby and St Leger winner Relampago (Dane Nelson) was outpaced into last position leaving the half-mile, and came running on to finish another three lengths in third.
