The teenAGE Observer recently had the chance to speak with dancehall duo RDX about their one of their latest singles – Linky. Linky, is fresh out of Cashflow Studios, on their Sounds of the Heart riddim.

More popularly known for fast, up-tempo tracks, this selection is noticeably slower, but the quality usually produced by RDX remains constant. The duo – which comprises of Renegade and Delomar – revealed to teenAGE the reason for this. Delomar explained, “We slowed it down to send a message.” In speaking directly to the track, he expressed, “It is often said that when people who you believe are friends betray you, they were never really your friends in the first place; just individuals being fake.”

Renegade then gave his thoughts on the topic, saying, “At the time they were “linkys”, because you thought you could trust them and this is what inspired the song”, describing it as the new “friend’s anthem”. As if on cue, Delomar jovially added, “We just twist the negatives and make money with it.”

RDX believes that the Linky single is real and relatable. Everyone has a real friend or “linky”, and most persons have come in contact with the fake ones too.

This track is one of those special songs that can be played any time of day, which is not usually the case with other RDX material.

“Your grandma can sing it on a Sunday right after church”, Delomar offered. “It’s an any age, and any wage kinda tune,” Renegade added.

Notably, Renegade and Delomar see themselves as an example of true friends who work together, real ‘loyal soldiers’.

The video for Linky was done by directors Xtreme Arts, in Waterhouse, where the RDX movement began. It highlights the fact that you must not burn your bridges behind you. Among other reasons, that location was used for the video based on the fact that they believe the success of RDX is not only down to Renegade & Delomar, but extends to an entire community. The video was published on YouTube yesterday (April 13).

There is much in the pipelines for RDX this year. They have an upcoming European tour “VSOP”, scheduled for May to June, and then they will be journeying to Canada for a tour spanning July to August.

More hits to be released as they are working with the likes of Skrillex, Major Lazer, and other producers. Adding flavor to their work, they also have in the pipelines, a Brazilian mix known as baile funk, fused with dancehall.

Interestingly, the duo also has plans to venture into business, looking at products inclusive of hair and hair dyes. No doubt, their “linkys” will give them all the support they can in whatever endeavours they take on.
