Farmer from Treasure Beach is 13-time winner of Jake’s Triathlon
THE Jake’s Triathlon, scheduled for tomorrow, is an annual event put on by the BREDs Foundation to raise funds for the Treasure Beach Foundation to promote community development.
Each year a combination of both international and local triathletes come down to the Treasure Beach area to participate in this charitable event. Jassette Bromfield, a farmer from the area, has been participating in this event for years and has won over 10 times, both individually and on a team basis.
Bromfield has a lot of experience in cycling as he is a member of the Jamaica Cycling Federation, was a bronze medallist in the 2007 Cycling Championships and the only Jamaican to be placed in the 2008 Caribbean Games in St Vincent.
He does intense training and has been participating in various 5Ks, 10Ks, half-marathons and marathons since April of last year. He also trains for the swimming leg a month before and consumes a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, protein and grains. Bromfield has a genuine love for the event and enjoys entertaining his community who always comes out to support him.
This propels him to participate each year, and he believes that sports and exercise in general are always good for a community and says there are many young, talented sportsmen and women in the area that just need proper funding and encouragement.
