MBU face America in CFU Club Championship
JAMAICA’S lone flag bearer in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, Montego Bay United (MBU), will meet Haiti’s America FC in a top-of-the-table clash in Group Three at the Complexe Sportif de Cayes in Les Caves in Haiti today.
Both teams made winning starts on Wednesday, Montego Bay United beating Club Sportif Moulien of Guadeloupe 1-0 and America FC beating SV Excelsior of Suriname 4-2.
Fabian McCarthy’s penalty conversion made the difference for Montego Bay United in their opening game.
The winners of each of the four groups will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for May 22-24 at venues to be decided.
Three teams from the CFU tournament will advance to the CONCACAF Club Championships for the 2015-16 season.
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s other representative Waterhouse FC failed to show up in Trinidad for their Group Two assignment and news reports have indicated the club might be having financial difficulties.
