LASCO pays CSEC fees for 11
ELEVEN students from Kingston Technical, Holy Childhood, Greater Portmore, Christiana, Black River and Central high schools will be able to take three extra subjects in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams in May/June this year, thanks to LASCO MoneyGram.
The company paid nearly $100,000 in total to cover the fees for the additional subjects.
Government pays for all students to sit maths and English, but according to a company representative, in most cases the students in question wouldn’t have been able to afford to pay for any more, and certainly not before the October deadline date.
Guidance counsellor of Black River High Craig Morris summed up the reality thus:
“Sometimes we have students with great potential, but lacking the financial resources to move forward so LASCO’s assistance is greatly appreciated,” he said.
The students were selected according to financial need, good academic performance and participation in extra-curricular activities. One of them was Akeem Thompson of Greater Portmore High.
“LASCO has made it possible for me to pay for my exams. I thought it would not be possible due to the death of my mom last year; but now I can say I am happy because in spite of the struggles I am going through I can now say someone cares. Thank you LASCO MoneyGram. You made me feel special,” Thompson said.
