The 5K circuit in Jamaica has ballooned over the years, as it has encouraged the locals to run for a cause and get fit while doing so.

Flow, which is a major player in the telecommunications sector, joined the fitness revolution and for the second year running is a major sponsor of the MoBay City Run. It’s the second staging of the event which pulls people from as far as Westmoreland and St Elizabeth out to participate.

“It’s a 5 and 10K run/walk, so it caters to the professionals and amateurs, or people who just want to have a fun time. As usual with our events, we at Flow will be powering the venue with our Wi-Fi. In addition, we will have several promotional items that are being done just for the event. So we are excited to be part of the MoBay City Run again this year,” said Nicole Campbell, sponsorship manager at Flow.

Last year approximately 2,000 individuals took part in the event. Among them was 71-year-old Icylin Allen of Hanover, who ran in the 10K event and surprised some of the young competitors to finish ahead of them.

This year some 4,000 participants are expected to take over the streets of the resort city and run for charity. Proceeds from the event will go toward helping needy tertiary students in western Jamaica.

Flow has been heavily involved in charity over the last year, raising funds for education with their execution and sponsorship of Rebel Salute and the Flow Back to School fair in Montego Bay, St James.

“We always ensure that charity is a big part of what we do. Flow is big on corporate social responsibility, and how we do MoBay City Run is no different. This year, too, we want to step it up a notch and have a wider fitness thrust. We will unveil it later this week. We’re expecting it will be a year-long thrust,” said Campbell.

Approximately 125 Flow staff and associates will also journey from Kingston to participate in the MoBay City Run, which is expected to start at 6:00 am next Sunday at the old hospital park.

“Our staff is very committed. Last year we left Kingston about 3:00 am to be part of MoBay City Run. We had fun on the bus and we represented well, ” said Naomi Francis, corporate communications manager at Flow.

A series of activities will be staged leading up to the event, including a Flow staff Kingston warm up, scheduled for Tuesday.
