Sandals Negril win Captain’s Bakery Division One title
SANDALS Negril secured victory over Grand Palladium in the final of the Hanover Football Association Captain’s Bakery & Grill Division 1 competition, held at the Watson Taylor Park in Lucea last Friday. Sandals Negril prevailed in the 85th minute, when Paul Lefever’s brilliant free kick, resulted in the only goal of the match.
Sandals Negril dominated much of the game, gaining more possession of the ball, but like Palladium, they missed several opportunities to score early on.
The win puts Sandals Negril closer to achieving a feat it has not attempted in over a decade – to play for the Hanover Football Association Major League championship trophy, which it had won three years in a row. As the Hanover football Division 1 titleholder, the Sandals team also copped prizes of gold medals and Jamaican $50,000 in cash; additionally, there is another cash prize in store for their top placement in the dress parade that launched the competition. Grand Palladium, has also secured a spot in the major league and walked away with a $20,000 cash prize.
Sandals Negril, which was the only unbeaten team in the Hanover Football Association Captain Bakery’s & Grill Division 1 season is looking to keep the momentum going, alongside Palladium, in the 2015-2016 Charley’s JB Rum Hanover Football Association Major League, which is scheduled to start in November 2015.
