Kenwyne Jones could be heading Down Under — reports
LONDON, England (CMC) — International media reports say Trinidad and Tobago international Kenwyne Jones could be on his way to the Western Sydney Wanderers in the Australian A-League.
The 30-year-old striker has a year left on his contract at English Championship club, Cardiff City, but with the recently relegated Welsh club looking to reduce their wage bill, Jones could find himself off-loaded.
Reports say Wanderers coach Tony Popovic is setting about rebuilding the team following the departure of the attacking trio of Tomi Juric, Kerem Bulut and Nikita Rukavytsya, and has his eyes set on Jones.
The T&T captain has scored 88 goals in 343 games in 11 seasons with Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke City, Sunderland, Cardiff City and AFC Bournemouth.
He joined Cardiff from Stoke City 18 months ago but was loaned to Bournemouth in March where he scored once in six outings, as the club won the league to earn promotion to the Premiership.
Before his move to Bournemouth, he had netted 11 times in 34 appearances.
He is reportedly on 58 000 pounds sterling per week — making him one of the club’s highest earners — but any move to the Australian outfit would see him earn considerably less.
Jones has earned 88 caps for his country and last November led them into the final of the CFU Caribbean Cup where they lost to eventual champions Jamaica.
