Sasso, Barnes to battle for ACDelco National Shotgun Sporting Clays
The final discipline in the ACDelco National Shotgun Sporting Clays championship will see defending champion Shaun Barnes and current leader Christian Sasso battling today and tomorrow in a 200-round competition.
It will be held at the Knolford Polo Ranch at Riversdale in St Catherine. Start time for both days is 10:30 am (shotgun start).
The other disciplines in the championship are 5 Stand, Skeet, Trap and Fitasc. They have all been completed and are awaiting the Sporting Clays winner.
Christian Sasso won 5 Stand and Skeet, while Ian Banks won Trap, and Robert YapFoo copped the title for Titasc. Sasso is the runner-up in Trap and will engage Andrew Azan in a shoot-off today for the runner-up spot in Fitasc.
Barnes on the other hand comes into the championship well prepared, having won it for the past four years. Additionally, as recently as May 31 he won the inaugural Sasco Open Sporting Clays Championship at Murphy Hill in St Ann when he was the only shooter to score in the nineties (93).
The top three shooters are Christian Sasso with nine points — 18 points ahead of Shaun Barnes who has 27 points, while Ian Banks is in third position with 28 points.
The class leaders going into the championship are Class A – Christian Sasso; Class B – Andrew Hopwood; Class C – Jake Terrien, who is a junior; Class D – Matthew Joshephs, who is a sub-junior at just 13 years old, and Class E – Garth Pearce.
The course is being set by international course setter and master shooter Gary Bloom out of the United States. He, along with Shoot Manager Errol Ziadie, was at Knolford Polo Ranch on Thursday where they started the process of setting the course. The course will have 14 stations for each day. Ziadie described it as a medium course which will be interesting for all the shooters, including the juniors, as well as seniors. He also said that the winning score should be anywhere between 88 and 90.
At the end of the two days of shooting the top six will enter the Super Six shoot-off and will shoot a further 25 clays from three stations in order to determine the overall winner.
The sponsors for the event are ACDelco, Rum Bar Gold, Rum Bar Vodka Classic, True Juice, Wata and Arts & Photo.
